Surtaal Celebrates live! (2023)
We were thrilled to bring Surtaal Celebrates live to a brilliant audience at Exeter Corn Exchange Summer 2023 with one of the world's best loved and well known brass bands, the Grimethorpe Colliery Band. Renowned for their innovative approach to music - and of course for the famous Brassed Off film - Grimethorpe brought a distinct energy to the evening (with some members even joining in one of RSVP's numbers earlier in the concert).
The first half of the concert featured Grimethorpe Colliery Band with Surtaal's very own soprano Belinda Evans featured in three of the numbers. And it wasn't long in the second half before audience members were up dancing to RSVP's unique up-tempo and energetic set! The grand finale brought together RSVP Bhangra, Grimethorpe and Belinda Evans for a spectacular finale featuring the very first live performance of Surtaal Celebrates. In fact, Dave the sound technician was so bowled over by the sound combination (not his type of music usually he said) that he's since gone out of his way to promote the Surtaal sound to local festivals - watch this space!
And we were all delighted to meet what must be the oldest member of our audience so far, a 97 year old lady from nearby Tiverton who was brought to the concert by her son and absolutely loved her evening out!
We look forward to linking up with Grimethorpe again in the near future. Many thanks to all for making the venture such fun!

Surtaal Celebrates online (2021)
We loved doing this when everyone was just coming out of lockdown and starting to make music together again - celebrating the return of live music making, combined with virtual videos, a exciting combination which builds on some of the technology we've had to learn over the last few years.
Presented by Grimethorpe Colliery Band, and co-created by Liz Lane and RSVP Bhangra. Supported by PRS For Music, it was premiered on 30 August 2021, receiving many thousands of views on social media. Video and audio is by wobplay.
The video features the world's most famous colliery band, Grimethorpe Colliery Band, filmed live at Elsecar Heritage Centre, RSVP Bhangra, Carducci String Quartet, Belinda Evans - soprano, vocal quartet from The Royal Military Chapel (The Guards' Chapel) and Darius Battiwalla on the mighty Leeds Town Hall organ!
