Surtaal Symphony originates from....
....two important words in the Bhangra tradition:
Sur = melody, Taal = rhythm
Liz and the RSVP team have added another two Bhangra ideas to represent the traditional four movement symphonic form:
Raasar = expression/emotion, Bol = lyric
The work weaves together Punjabi stories such as Heer Ranjha, a love story about forbidden love and tragic death, with similar tales from European culture, such as Romeo and Juliet, perhaps showing that our traditions have more in common than we might think….

"The power of the brass band, the driving rhythms of Bhangra and a soaring coloratura soprano will combine to excite, delight and move our audiences in ways they haven’t before considered".
